It’s time for Maggi’s next surgery.
Dr. Devito has told us that Maggi’s VEPTR II rod is pretty near the end of it’s ability to be extended. With that being said, he will do either one of two things:
1- He’ll extend the rod to the maximum limit, meaning that it would be replaced during Maggi’s next spine surgery, or
2- He’ll replace the rod with a longer one.
Either way, the screws at the bottom of Maggi’s rod have begun to loosen. Anybody who has used screws in wood knows that after so much usage, those screws begin to get loose. The same is happening at the bas of the rod. The biggest difference is that this is not wood we’re talking about, here… it’s bone. Dr. Devito says that there are a couple of options on how to fix this problem – the most obvious being use slightly larger screws. We will let you know what he does when we find out ourselves.
Thanks for being such a great support system. We love you all!
Patrick
